Me, Myself, I, a less well-known film of Rachel Griffiths, could be included as well.

Good one. The imdb entry reminds me of non-chick flick Family Man, which in turn reminds me of It’s a Wonderful Life which I suppose is the origin of this device — though I also understand that the alternate reality in IaWL doesn’t dominate the movie as it does in the chick flicks under discussion.

I love MMI! It’s the only one of those movies I’ve seen. It’s all about the career-and-romantic-freedom version of her coming to a rapprochement with the mommy-and-somewhat-compromised-career version of her, and in the end mourning the things they hadn’t chosen a little, but not regretting the life they’ve had and better understanding the conditions that shape the other’s life and determine their behavior. It’s like this healing parable for the mommy wars.
