Moron Watch

An article about how McCain is best suited for the presidency because he’s an impulsive hothead, unlike the calm, collected Obama? Of course it’s going to be stupid. But it manages to work up to a Crowning Moment of Moron:

“To borrow Robert Frost’s line, I hold with those who favor fire.”

Here is the poem that the authors are quoting:

SOME say the world will end in fire,
Some say in ice.
From what I’ve tasted of desire
I hold with those who favor fire.
But if it had to perish twice,
I think I know enough of hate
To know that for destruction ice
Is also great
And would suffice.

Frost (ha-ha) is saying that fire is more likely to bring about the end of the world. If that’s the case these people want to make for McCain, go right ahead.

(I also doubt that desire and hate line up nicely with the choleric/pragmatic distinction the authors have supposedly written a whole book about. Speaking of which, the author bio is this headscratcher: Art and Laraine Bennett are the authors of the bestselling
The Temperament God Gave You and The Temperament God Gave Your Spouse
, which publishes today.
That title and the intransitive use of “publishes” seem to indicate that English is not their native language, but how do they know the book is bestselling if it hasn’t been published yet? –There may be a legitimate answer to that question.)

  1. The book appears to have been published in 2005.

  2. Ah, it’s an underlining error; The Temperament God Gave You is (presumably) a bestseller and The Temperament God Gave Your Spouse is a book that was published today.

That doesn’t explain why they think “publish” is intransitive, but can’t win ’em all.
