  1. There were really a ton of great stories to choose from here. I picked two that have stuck with me for a long time: False Mavis and Unbeknown.

False Mavis for its atmosphere, which became even darker and doom-filled once I started listening to various versions of the song “Long Lankin”, and Unbeknown because its story is ambitious, and it surprised me.

  2. I’m glad someone else mentioned False Mavis! That’s getting one of my votes. It really excels as a story, where what’s happening in the narrative is what motivates your actions (as opposed to exploration, world-building, stat-building, puzzle-solving, etc.), and it’s got a few really great, subtle twists where you realize the story wasn’t what you thought it was.

Birdland is getting my other vote. It’s another game where the story is the backbone to the whole experience. The characters and humor get a lot of (deserved) credit, but the way it’s structured, everything would fall apart if the plot wasn’t compelling on a traditional story-level.
